is there a way to do this dynamically? as in the slide # generates the page count instead of just a placeholder that you have to enter the text manually. A place holder does no good when you add a slide and have to manually reenter the slide # from the point where you added a slide.

I'm not sure why you guys are playing around with <iframe> instead of <embed><object> code, but it isn't working for me. When putting a presentation in an iframe, it just doesn't display correctly. Often there is a white box in the upper left corner of the frame. I could include dozens of pictures of this, but I think one will suffice. I don't know why, but this sometimes even happens with your iframe code.

Fortunately the embed tags still work, but I guess now I have to generate those myself.

Greg, First, we have ever intention of offering the youtube integration. The voting helps us decide which features are most requested by users and we implement those first. We are in process of building a youtube integration, but these things take time and resources. Being a beta start up time and resources are always in high demand, so we have to pick and choose what gets offered first.

I just learned that one is unable to "change out" a .ppt presentation and keep the same URL of the original presentation.

Unbelievable, and something that is seamless to do in SlideShare.

SlideRocket advised that "you can edit presentation in Sliderocket..." which isn't very useful. We use Powerpoint to create and distribute presentations, pdfs, etc. and don't want to have one version of a presentation in SlideRocket and one in Powerpoint.

This seems like it should be easy to implement - unfortunately, SR can't confirm when this capability will be implemented.

Too bad, because the SlideRocket presentation platform is outstanding. However, this flaw renders it unusable for our purposes.

SR isn't for simply hosting ppt the way SS is. The main idea for SR is to do your authoring here and have it hosted here. With that in mind, the ppt import is mainly just to bring ppt's in for editing and then hosting. It would be pointless to go back to ppt since many of the SR effects don't translate back to ppt, and vice-versa.

It would actually be hard to implement what you are asking. Even if SR could import all ppt effects, they would still need microsoft, or a plugin, to implement bringing all the SR effects back to ppt. I don't see that happening.

I appreciate that we can record audio to our slides; however, I was dissapointed to find that slides cannot be timed to an uploaded audio file. For example:

I gave a presentation before I had heard of sliderocket. I wanted to be able to share the presentation (slides and audio) with the world (which is why I tried sliderocket) so I uploaded my presentation as well as the audio file (1hr 20min). I was hoping that I could designate where the slide transitions took place during the audio. Unfortunately, I would have to split my 1hr 20min presentation into about 50 seperate mp3's and assign to each slide - not happening :)

Slideshare has the functaionality that I am referring to above (but slideshare can't to a lot of what sliderocket does). I think this would be a great addition to sliderocket. Someone from customer service contacted me and I shared this with them. They requested that I post this on the forum as she "has heard about 4 other people with similar issues in the last week or two." Not sure if I'm sharing this int the proper place.

Thanks!

Ryan -- I have a couple of solutions for your problem. First, you can add the long audio file as background audio under the "file>presentation settings" tab in the SR editor. You can then set individual slide lengths using the "Advance to next slide" setting. The main problem with this is that the SR advance setting is only good to the nearest second (could it be that hard to add one decimal place to that variable???), and doesn't include transition times.

A second option, if you decide to cut up your audio, is to use MP3 Direct Cut (freeware). It makes cutting audio very quick and relatively painless. I could probably do theat 1hr20 min audio in less than 2 hours, which is only a bit longer than it would take to set the slide lengths for 50 slides.

Just thought I would offer this in case it helps.

Mark, thanks for the suggestion. I will look into your proposed solution. I can handle transitions to the nearest second at this point. It sounds a lot easier than cutting the audio into pieces. Thanks!

I'd like to put a sliderocket show into a flash animation but flash can't display the html site or the embed code. Is there a way to direct link to a slide show swf, either by adding the id=xxxxx code to the url, or by using actionscript loadMovie or loadMovieNum? loadMovie should do it, but I haven't been able to make any loadMovie code pass the id variable to the SR swf. Has anyone got an example code of this?

edit: I should clarify that I don't need to download an swf of the SR show, I know that functionality is not there. I just need to include the swf player stream, with a particular id, into a flash movie.

There isn't a way to do this the way you're describing above. Instead we recommend using a screen capture program such as JING to record your presentation playing then embed that into your Flash animation.

This is quite frustrating. I thought it was going to be pretty straightforward to do this, but I guess not. Here's the problem: using screen capture is not a good substitute. That basically removes the main reason SR is convenient -- everything is in one place and only one instance of a presentation needs to be updated no matter where we use it. If we screen capture it, then we will need to replace every instance of it every time there is a change. Plus there is some lost functionality...stuff like not being able to control the size or audio of an embedded video, etc.

SR actually works fine for us as it is, but we are looking at upgrading our learning management system and authoring tools. The problem is that nearly all of the best tools are flash based, and have limited facilities for displaying the html page. Seems it should be a piece of cake to load the SR player swf, then send it the id# via variable.

When I look at the SlideRocket Tour presentation, on slide 6 is a cool image spinning effect and one that looks like a button or a glassy sphere. I think these are using some gizmo or widget that doesn't seem to be available. Where does one find this add in?

Incidentally, for some reason now when I click to select either one of these objects my browser freaks out and locks up. Have to kill it. This is maybe my fifth attempt to ask this question. I'm using Firefox 3.5.7. Not sure if it's a browser thing or if it's happening because the gizmo isn't present to support the objects when I click to choose them.

Thanks... Rick :)

Select the item, then go to the effects tab in the properties side panel. The "glassy sphere" is called "aqua", the spinning picture isn't available, I think. It must be a flash animation, or a demo of the transition "flip" effect. It can be done with any basic flash editor, but that's another bit of software....

BTW, many of the effects you see in the presentation showcase, the marcolina ones for instance, involve flash and are not slide rocket effects. That doesn't make them bad demo's for the product, its good to know SR can display flash like that, but you can't always do everything you see inside SR alone.

To make .swf files you need Flash Professional (not free).
To make .flv files you need Adobe CS3 Flash Encoder (also not free). Here's our suggestions on working with the Flash Encoder: http://www.sliderocket.com/support/qs_2-18_flv-info.html

There are also free screen capture programs that let you pick a section of the screen to record and convert to swf.

It is misleading to claim you offer an unbranded service when in fact, branding is still there.

As a practical matter, the presence of any branding is a HUGE negative for my business. I create presentations for clients and embed them on their websites. SlideRocket's branding is, from my perspective, a huge invitation for them to dismiss me and do their presentations in-house. It's also worth mentioning that some clients are justifiably concerned about anything that can possibly divert the attention of--or remove--visitors from their site.

Branding is a great strategy for your free version, but it's indefensible for those of us who are, in effect, having to pay for the privilege of promoting your business and at the same time cutting our own throats.

1) audio buttons vs slide audio

All is see is Flash and Video for adding multimedia elements to a slide -- I'd like to have an Audio option as well rather than being limited to associating audio with an entire slide. I'd like to create a series of audio buttons (with similar video/flash properties ) on a slide and have users be able to click an audio button and hear the clip, just like they can do with video clips, for now i have made movies of my audio clips to achieve this functionality.

2) adding transition overrides to hyperlinks

I'd like to have back arrows buttons that users can click on and use the hyperlink feature to jump to previous slide - while I can do this now, the problem is that I have no control in the "jump to" hyperlink screen to override the default slide transition and associate a new slide transition to the hyperlink "jump to" action, which would override the default slide transition.

The result is a cube rotation that spins as if I am moving forward when I'm actually going backward, and that is very visually and cognivtiely disconcerting. The only workaround I can figure out, is to create an entire duplicate set of slides for my presentation (a going backward version) and reverse the direction of transitions, while then having to link the forward arrows in the going backward version to the proper slides in the original presentation - this is something that quickly becomes time consuming and tedious.

Anyone have some ideas/suggestions? I really like what i've seen of sliderocket so far, but these two items seem like major oversights to me? I have to train myself not to right click, when i do i get very long waits...

How active is development on sliderocket, I've just become a trial user last week and am trying to get a sense if there are still booster engines and thrust available for the project or if the thing is plummeting back to earth?

You out there Tara?

here's a link to a presentation i made to illustrate my point about the transitions - i had to create an extra set of slides for hyperlinks that go to the previous slide. the presnetation consists of two sets of slides - the first set of 4 slides have next and prev arrow navigation and rely on the the default slide transition - the next set of 7 slides have 4 slides for moving forward and three additional slide duplicates with reverse transitions for moving backwards. the solution to this would be to attach a transition property to the hyperlnik object and have that override the default slide transition of the hyperlink destination.

Hello,
I show a lot of software product demonstrations and have found it's best to record with Camtasia at 1280x720. I often save these as mp4 for upload to Youtube. They look steller there and get the "HD button" option in the youtube player. Youtube probably does some compressing, too.

What would be the best options for encoding an FLV file from Camtasia for upload to Sliderocket with HD quality? Obviously, I'm more worried about overall file size with SlideRocket than with Youtube. Thoughts?

Suppose you intend for your slide to be an imported image, and nothing more. You are creating the image yourself, so its size (pixel dimensions) is entirely within your control. What are the optimum width and height dimensions? What's the maximum width and maximum height sizes we can use before SlideRocket will start resampling and shrinking the image?

I realize these dimensions will probably vary based on a given theme's aspect ratio. I realize that switching aspect ratios will probably somewhat defeat the plan of having an unprocessed, "first-generation" image. Still, it would be nice to know what the optimum, full-frame image dimensions are for a given aspect ratio.

For viewers who watch your slide presentation via a public URL there should be a PAUSE control which will allow them to pause the audio in the event they have to take a phone call, or handle somehting time sensitive. In this fashion they'd be able to PAUSE and RESTART from where they left off without having to go back to the previous slide and then forward to the original slide.

I have slides with audi that lasts 3-4 minutes in some cases so in that case the viewer would need to go back to the prev slide and then forward to the current slide, only to be forced to listen to the whole audio track from the beginning. This will definitley be annoying to a viewer if they've listened to 3 out of 4 minutes and then they are forced to go back and listen to the first 3 minutes again.

THANKS!

I would like to have a PAUSE control, too. . I use SlideRocket for language teaching and my students have to be able to stop a presentation and resume it without having to go back all the way. Can that be done now?

Thank

Currently you can pause a presentation set to auto advance if you set it under File > Presentation Settings.

A major update to audio, including a pause button is due out by the end of this year.

When creating several slides with bulleted lists, the end bullet keeps dropping the punctuation (usually a period) when the presentation is played. It shows up perfectly fine when not in "play" mode. What gives? Margins aren't out of whack and I have one slide that's dropping the period off of both the 3rd and 4th bullet. Have tried every conceivable solution, but am officially stumped. Any ideas?

I have a similar situation on some slides... I have found that by adding additional punctuation, then the unecessary punctuation is dropped and the wanted one remains... Strange workaround I know, but it kind of works...
